California Delta Fishing Report – June-July 2011

June and July has been pretty good for numbers of fish and although we haven’t been seeing any real big fish in the last few weeks (6lbs+) we know its just a matter of time. The water temp has been in the low to mid 70′s. The best way to catch fish right now is to fish in or around the slow moving current with top water baits. Prop baits have been my favorite but spooks and chuggers working almost as well. As expected, you can’t go wrong with a senko,.. Drop shottin a Yamamoto cut tail worm or a zoom trick worm in green pumpkin and tail died chartreuse should also produce good results. If you want to wind something, try a med diving crankbait on the outside bends on the rip rap walls. We’re approaching the time of year that you can catch really big fish on the heavy rods and braid punchin the grass mats and clumps of floating penny wart. But the bites can be very few and far between until you find the right clumps, the right time, the right tide in the right slough. Trying to keep it simple and I hope this helps you.
